Palladium
Palladium is represented by the symbol Pd on the periodic table. It is a silvery-white metal that is primarily used in catalytic converters. It is also used for dental applications, electronics, and jewellery. Palladium is rare and is primarily mined in South Africa and Russia, followed by the USA and Canada. Most mined palladium is used in industrial applications. Investing in Palladium is typically done by buying pure palladium bars and coins such as the RCM Palladium Maple Leaf.
Platinum
Platinum is represented by the symbol Pt on the periodic table. It is a silvery-white metal that is primarily used in catalytic converters and for jewellery. It is also used in chemical production, petroleum refining, electronics, glass making, and many other industrial applications. For many years standards such as the length of a meter or the mass of a kilogram were defined by items made out of platinum-iridium alloys. Platinum is even more rare than palladium and the majority of the world’s supply of it comes from South Africa. Rhodium
Rhodium is represented by the symbol Rh on the periodic table. It is a silvery-white metal that is primarily used in catalytic converters. It is also electroplated on jewellery, typically for white gold, and on sterling silver items to resist tarnishing. Rhodium is one of the rarest elements on Earth and is primarily mined in South Africa followed by Russia.
