Our calculator is designed to help you, anywhere, find out how much we will pay for your silverware pieces. It uses a combination of options and formulas to estimate the silver content of a piece and its value.

Choose whether to use grams, troy ounces, or kilograms.

Choose whether you want the value in CAD or USD.

Pick the type of silverware item from the Tableware drop down.

Choose the type of silver.

Select whether the item is weighted, has non-silver parts, or both. These options will vary based on the type of silverware.

Weigh the item on a scale.

Enter the weight into the calculator.

The calculator will then tell you the current melt value for your item.

Frequently Asked Questions by Estate Dealers

How long do transactions take?

Depending on the nature and quantity of the items brought in, transactions may take from 15 to over 30 minutes for Estate Dealers, Guardian has two high powered induction furnaces and state of the art x-ray spectrometers to ensure the fastest possible transaction times for our clients.

Can I drop off my metal and come back?

Absolutely, we are happy to save you waiting times in our office if you want to drop off your items and come back later for itemization and final payment.

How can I save time during this transaction?

We recommend calling ahead of time to speak with our staff if there are any rates you need, questions you may have or if you just want to get to know our business. You can also save your time by clearly separating the different items you’d like itemized on your final receipt.

When do transactions require paperwork or ID?

We require identification from any individual conducting transactions where, within a 24-hour period, we receive a Cash total of $10,000.00 CAD or more, or its equivalent in USD. Identification is also required from any client receiving payment by bank transfer or cheque. Additionally, we require identification for repeat customers and for those conducting transactions on behalf of a company.

What is your policy on HST?

All businesses and corporations selling scrap metal who require payment of HST must provide, for each transaction, a receipt including the following details: Business Name, Date of Invoice, Amount Payable, Total amount of HST Charged, Goods Description and HST number. The HST number provided must be registered on the day of the transaction and the name with which it is registered must be included in either the account opening documents or on the invoices provided.

How will I be paid?

We offer payment in Cash, Bank Transfers or Cheques or in a combination of those three.

What is the minimum / maximum quantity I can sell?

No minimums, no maximums, whenever you and your business needs liquidity we are here for you.

My jewellery is marked with it’s purity, why do you need to melt it?

Unfortunately, we have seen too much jewellery that was stamped as one purity but when melted and assayed, turned out to be an entirely different purity than expected. This is why we melt all scrap gold jewellery before we buy it.

What is the Assay Process? Do you have to melt my gold?

We don’t melt all metals on site but we do melt Gold Scrap to ensure an accurate reading and weight. Read more about our Assay process.

How do you determine the purity of gold and silver?

To get the best value for our clients, we analyze all purchased metals with regularly calibrated, state of the art ElvaX-XRF Analyzer desktop energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) analyzer spectrometer for accurate precious metals content. This leaves no question as to the purity of your metals and guarantees that the payment will be based solely on the precious metals content. All clients receive a printout of their assay report with a full breakdown of their metal.

Do I have to open an account to deal with Guardian?

Opening an account is not necessary unless you are looking to do recurring business or business on behalf of a company.
