Jan. 19/26 Update to Silver Purchases

We are Buying ONLY SELECT Silver Until Further Notice

January 19, 2026

As of today we are now purchasing:

  • All silver bullion from LBMA certified makers.
  • 50 Ounce and smaller bullion from non-LBMA makers.

Our silver refining partners in Canada have temporarily frozen their payment mechanisms. This is a global issue in response to current market stressors. Elevated lease rates on silver have now made it impossible for Guardian to settle transactions under normal terms.

At this time we cannot purchase these silver products:

  • Jewellery
  • Silver flatware, tableware, and collectible items
  • Any Coinage
  • Non-LBMA certified makers bullion larger than 50 oz

These are temporary measures. Unfortunately, we cannot predict when circumstances will change, however, we will review this policy as conditions stabilize. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.

Geopolitics

Russia is massing a large force in the Kursk region to counter a Ukrainian advance that began with a surprise incursion in August, changing the dynamics of the ongoing war. Recent reports indicate a significant number of North Korean troops are also involved, intensifying the conflict. This escalation follows an intense exchange of drone attacks, with significant civilian casualties reported by Ukraine. The situation has heightened international concern, especially with the political changes in the U.S. and potential shifts in its foreign policy following the election.

The U.S. will continue its current policy on arms transfers to Israel, despite concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza. The State Department acknowledged that while Israel has taken some steps to improve access to aid as outlined by U.S. officials, more actions are necessary. The UN warns of a potential famine in northern Gaza due to intense conflict and restricted aid access. This situation has prompted critical comments from international allies like Germany about the adequacy of humanitarian efforts in the region.

In their last meeting before the U.S. administration change, Chinese President Xi Jinping and outgoing President Joe Biden discussed several critical issues, emphasizing cooperation and managing differences. The meeting occurred on the sidelines of the APEC forum in Lima, Peru. Xi expressed a willingness to work with the incoming administration for a stable U.S.-China relationship, despite potential policy shifts under President-elect Donald Trump, who has proposed aggressive trade measures against China. Biden sought China’s cooperation on various challenges, including cyber crime, trade, Taiwan, and geopolitical tensions with Russia.

The Call

Gold went down to around 2550.00 where we had expected it to find some support. We may see a bounce to 2600.00 to 2650.00 and then a reversal to test last weeks low of 2537.20. This low is unlikely to hold in our view. Before all is said and done, gold should retreat a little more and a short term target for a bottom would be in the 2400.00 to 2450.00 range and then a resumption of the bull market taking gold to new highs next year.

Last Week in Review

Gold opened on Sunday evening at 2688.00 near the weekly high of 2689.20 and began sinking immediately and steadily through to Thursday where we hit the weekly low of 2537.40. Bearish was the trend for the week and gold ended where we expected it to trade down to. A small bounce on Friday and gold finished the week at 2563.40.

Silver opened Sunday night at 31.365 and moved a little higher to make the weekly high at 31.615 on Monday morning. From here the descent began and silver moved lower making lower lows and lower highs through to Thursday making the weekly low at 29.70 before a minor recovery to close Friday at 30.285.

  • The U.S. Dollar Index was stronger this week and finished at 106.69.
  • The Gold/Silver Ratio was a little stronger at 84.9 ounces of silver for 1 ounce of gold.
