Jan. 19/26 Update to Silver Purchases

We are Buying ONLY SELECT Silver Until Further Notice

January 19, 2026

As of today we are now purchasing:

  • All silver bullion from LBMA certified makers.
  • 50 Ounce and smaller bullion from non-LBMA makers.

Our silver refining partners in Canada have temporarily frozen their payment mechanisms. This is a global issue in response to current market stressors. Elevated lease rates on silver have now made it impossible for Guardian to settle transactions under normal terms.

At this time we cannot purchase these silver products:

  • Jewellery
  • Silver flatware, tableware, and collectible items
  • Any Coinage
  • Non-LBMA certified makers bullion larger than 50 oz

These are temporary measures. Unfortunately, we cannot predict when circumstances will change, however, we will review this policy as conditions stabilize. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.

Geopolitics

The rise of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in East Germany has sparked concerns as it leads in recent polls for upcoming state elections in Saxony and Thuringia. The AFD, scrutinized for extremist views, capitalizes on dissatisfaction with migration policies and economic issues. This situation poses challenges for forming government coalitions in a region historically skeptical of NATO and Germany’s policies. The upcoming elections are critical, with the AFD potentially becoming the strongest party, which could influence national politics significantly.

Israeli forces carried out extensive military operations across the West Bank, potentially marking the most significant actions in the area in 20 years. This operation involved airstrikes, raids, and the sealing off of Jenin. Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz described the situation as akin to a “full-fledged war,” comparable to operations in the Gaza Strip. The operations resulted in at least ten deaths and numerous injuries. This escalation follows ongoing tensions and violence in the region, with Israel intensifying its military efforts against what it perceives as militant threats.

U.S. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, met with Chinese leader Xi Jinping and other high-ranking officials in Beijing to discuss stabilizing U.S.-China relations amid rising tensions. This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to maintain open communication and manage competition responsibly. Both nations are preparing for a possible summit between President Biden and President Xi later this year at international gatherings. Additionally, Sullivan’s visit included rare talks with a top Chinese military official to enhance communication and minimize conflict risks, addressing issues such as Taiwan and Chinese support for Russia against Ukraine.

A Chinese military aircraft entered Japan’s airspace near the Danjo Islands, prompting a severe response from Japan, including scrambling jets and lodging a diplomatic protest. Japan views this as a violation of its sovereignty and a safety threat. China claims it did not intend to breach Japanese airspace, with verification ongoing. This incident reflects heightened tensions and increased Chinese military activity in the region. Discussions on these issues are also occurring during U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan’s visit to Beijing.

The Call

Gold seems balanced here at the 2500.00 level now. Everyone is talking interest rate cuts and questioning whether it will be ¼ point or a ½ point. Our view is the Fed will only cut a 1/4 point and take a wait and see approach. A half percentage point would indicate the economy is in trouble of a recession we do not think we are at that point. Short term, gold should trade 75.00 either side of 2500.00. The nonfarm payroll, coming out Friday morning will keep us all guessing during the week. Any dip in the price should be considered a buying opportunity as we feel there should be a steady rally upwards into the end of the year for both gold and silver.

Last Week in Review

Gold opened at almost the identical price as last week at 2511.60 on Sunday evening and moved higher into Tuesday morning hitting 2529.50. Gold then chopped sideways hitting the weekly high of 2530.80 Wednesday evening. Further choppy trade eventually took us lower into Friday where the weekly low was established at 2493.10 before a small move higher had the metal closing at 2502.40.

Silver opened Sunday night at 29.91 and had a small rally higher to establish its weekly high at 30.255 by Monday morning. We saw choppy trading until a selloff started Wednesday night lasting through until Friday afternoon where the weekly low of 28.66 was made and closed out the week a tad higher at 28.83. This puts the gold /silver ratio at 86.6 to 1.

  • The U.S. Dollar Index bounced higher this week and finished at 101.70.
  • The Gold/Silver Ratio widened out this week, from 84.4 ounces to 86.798 ounces of silver for 1 ounce of gold.
