Jan. 19/26 Update to Silver Purchases

We are Buying ONLY SELECT Silver Until Further Notice

January 19, 2026

As of today we are now purchasing:

  • All silver bullion from LBMA certified makers.
  • 50 Ounce and smaller bullion from non-LBMA makers.

Our silver refining partners in Canada have temporarily frozen their payment mechanisms. This is a global issue in response to current market stressors. Elevated lease rates on silver have now made it impossible for Guardian to settle transactions under normal terms.

At this time we cannot purchase these silver products:

  • Jewellery
  • Silver flatware, tableware, and collectible items
  • Any Coinage
  • Non-LBMA certified makers bullion larger than 50 oz

These are temporary measures. Unfortunately, we cannot predict when circumstances will change, however, we will review this policy as conditions stabilize. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.

Geopolitics

Democratic nominee Kamala Harris introduced Tim Walz as her vice presidential choice at a rally in Pennsylvania. Amid political upheaval following an assassination attempt on Donald Trump and Joe Biden ending his campaign, Harris swiftly chose Walz, hoping his Midwestern, veteran, and progressive background will appeal broadly, especially in critical states. The selection, praised by diverse political figures, aims to solidify Democratic support in the Midwest and counter Trump’s focus there. The announcement spurred significant campaign donations and set the stage for a rigorous electoral battle as both parties nominees have set their running mates.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held an emergency meeting in response to widespread far-right riots triggered by misinformation about a recent stabbing incident. The violence, which included attacks on hotels housing asylum-seekers and clashes with police, led to numerous arrests. In an effort to curb the chaos, Starmer vowed to confront the far-right violence with strict law enforcement measures. The government also planned to enhance security at mosques and other vulnerable locations in reaction to the unrest and disinformation circulating online.

Japan’s stock market saw a rebound, with the Nikkei 225 and the Topix both registering around 9% gains after heavy losses in the previous session. This rally pulled both indexes back into positive territory for the year. Market recovery was influenced by a diverse set of factors including the Bank of Japan’s recent rate hike, a weaker yen, and strong performances in key sectors like trading houses and technology. South Korea and Australia’s markets also experienced gains, reflecting a broader recovery in the Asia-Pacific region.

Muhammad Yunus, who initiated the global microcredit movement and won the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, has assumed leadership of Bangladesh’s caretaker government following weeks of intense violence. This turmoil prompted the resignation and flight of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Yunus aims to stabilize the nation and prepare for new elections, emphasizing a return to democracy and human rights. His administration, supported by students and including advisors from the protests, seeks to address the power vacuum and violence that escalated after Hasina’s departure. Yunus’s role is pivotal in transitioning Bangladesh back to democratic governance amidst widespread unrest and communal violence.

The Call

Gold had a substantial drop last Sunday/Monday falling to a low of 2363.00 an ounce Monday morning before recovering through out the rest of the week finishing at a respectable 2430.00. A response from Iran has not surfaced as of yet and this response would certainly push gold prices higher towards the highs. Also, with investors being almost certain of a September rate cut of 25 to 50 basis points by the Fed at the September meeting, a bullish indicator as well. We lean toward gold consolidating in a range between 2400.00 and 2500.00 with a bullish bias towards the highs this week.

Last Week in Review

Gold opened at 2449.60 on Sunday evening and moved up a little higher to make the weekly high of 2460.10 just after midnight. Gold then followed most assets lower with the unwind of the Japanese carry trade and fears of a U.S. recession combined to drive risk assets sharply lower. Gold followed this panic in the Asian and European markets lower to make its weekly low Monday morning at 2363.00 before recovering about half the drop by lunchtime Monday. Gold chopped sideways in a narrow range from 2380.00 to 2420 for most of the week until a small rally Friday took gold to  2430.00 to close out the week.

Silver followed gold lower in a similar pattern after opening at 28.585 Sunday evening. A small bounce to hit the weekly high of 28.725 and then the sharp selloff into Monday morning making a low of  26.50.Silver then chopped sideways making the weekly low of 26.415 on Wednesday afternoon. A small bounce from here took us into the close on Friday at 27.445.

  • The U.S. Dollar Index was down a little for the week again and finished at 103.14.
  • The Gold/Silver Ratio widened out for the week, finishing at 88.6 ounces of silver for 1 ounce of gold.
