Our office is through the shiny brass doors, and directly across the street from a Green P Parking Lot. Frequently Asked Questions by Auction Houses

How long do transactions take?

Depending on the nature and quantity of the items brought in, transactions may take between 20-30+ minutes. Our staff will assess and test items to ensure that the full and accurate value is identified.

How will I be paid?

Traditionally most of our clients receive payment in cash, however we do offer other payment options including cheque or bank transfer.

How can I save time during this transaction?

Although not necessary, separating your items by category (bowls, cutlery, knives etc.) will save us significant time sorting while you are in our office. We always recommend calling ahead of time to notify our staff if you have a larger collection of items so we can assure an associate can personally handle your group when you come in.

When do transactions require paperwork or ID?

We require identification from any individual conducting transactions where, within a 24-hour period, we receive a Cash total of $10,000.00 CAD or more, or its equivalent in USD.
Identification is also required from any client receiving payment by bank transfer or cheque. Additionally, we require identification for repeat customers and for those conducting transactions on behalf of a company.

What is weighted silver?

Weighted silver is simply the addition of a heavy substance, such as wax, glass or cement, to what is normally a small amount of silver. This process provides balance and structural support to items including: candlesticks, knives, trophies, bowls and dishes, salt and pepper shakers, and handheld mirrors. Does it matter if my items are broken or mismatched?

No! Whether your items come in perfectly polished or have been collecting dust for decades, Guardian will happily quote you a price for the item regardless of condition or completeness.

Are there minimums / maximums I must bring in?

There is NO minimum or maximum quantity required to sell us precious metals.

What is the Assay Process? Do you have to melt my gold?

We do not melt all metals on site but we do melt Gold Scrap to ensure an accurate reading and weight. Read more about our Assay process.

How do you determine the purity of gold and silver?

To get the best value for our clients, we analyze all purchased metals with regularly calibrated, state of the art ElvaX-XRF Analyzer desktop energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence EDXRF analyzer spectrometer for accurate precious metals content. This leaves no question as to the purity of your metals and guarantees that the payment will be based solely on the precious metals content. Our process is transparent and you can be satisfied knowing that there will be no hidden brokerage, transaction, or assay fees.

Do I have to open an account to deal with Guardian?

Opening an account is not necessary unless you are looking to do recurring business or business on behalf of a company.

When is it the right time to sell my silver or gold?

What kinds of silver does Guardian Gold NOT buy?

We do not purchase any silver plated items. The costs to recover the silver content in these items is greater than the value of the silver. If you have silver plated items that you no longer want we suggest that you donate them to someone who will use them, or list them to sell in an online marketplace. Additionally, we do not buy precious or semi-precious stones, rocks, or sedimentary materials.
